AHL player taken to hospital after collapsing on bench

There was a scary scene in the AHL Friday night as Lake Erie Monsters forward Brett Gallant collapsed on the bench and was stretchered off during their game against the Toronto Marlies.

It's unclear what happened during the television timeout at Ricoh Coliseum, but Gallant was quickly taken to a local hospital.

The game resumed a short while after Gallant was taken off the bench.

Sportsnet has video of the emergency personnel attending to Gallant.

Gallant, 27, signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets over the summer after spending the last five seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has one points in 48 games with Lake Erie this season.
