Brayden Schenn to have hearing for T.J. Oshie headshot

Brayden Schenn’s season is over, but he still may be disciplined for a play from Sunday’s Game 6 where his Philadelphia Flyers were eliminated by the Washington Capitals.

Any suspension would start in the 2016-17 NHL regular season for Schenn.

In the second period of the game, a 1-0 win by Washington, Schenn launched himself into Oshie’s head area leaving his feet to make the big hit. Schenn was not penalized on the play.

After the hit, Oshie went off the ice and into the Capitals dressing room and missed the remaining 5:22 of the second period. He eventually returned for the start of the third period and played the rest of the game. TSN’s Darren Dreger pointed out that Schenn has a history of launching into hits and it’s something the NHL’s Department of Player Safety is keeping look at.

“I haven’t seen it or anything,” Oshie said after the game according to the Washington Post. “I just kind of needed to take a breath there. It’s over. I don’t really care about it. It’s nice to move on.”

Schenn seemed to draw some anger from the Caps during the series.

In Game 5, Oshie and Schenn fought 10 seconds into the game. Schenn also crosschecked Washington forward Evgeny Kuznetsov in Game 4 and owned up to it, calling it a pretty dumb play by me.”
