Greiss' gaffe, Jensen's beauty highlight Friday's Worlds action (Video)

Thomas Greiss had a fine season with the New York Islanders, grabbing the No. 1 job while Jaroslav Halak was injured and leading the team into the second-round of the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Once the Isles’ season ended, Greiss headed to Russia to represent Germany at the IIHF World Championships. In his first game on Friday, he allowed Belarus’ Andrei Stas score the easiest goal of his career:

Fortunately for Greiss, the goal occurred late in the game with the Germans up a couple of goals. You could even forgive him if the puck had just deflected off Stas and threw his positioning off a bit. But the Islanders netminder actually corrals the puck — which was going wide — and redirects it into his own net.

Germany would end up winning 5-2 and Greiss’ oopsie is now just be a footnote in a win.

While we’re on the subject of goals at the Worlds, Denmark kept their hopes of getting out of Group A alive with a 3-2 win over Latvia. With each team scoring in the shootout, Nicklas Jensen had the game on his stick and went the Full Nilsson:

Of course, according to the law, anytime someone pulls that move off in international competition Peter Forsberg must be referenced.
