Showtime goes all-access on Joonas Donskoi's OT winner (Video)

Ever want an all-access look at the most important goal of a team’s season?

Showtime gave us a glimpse Monday when the network released a segment from the upcoming ALL ACCESS: QUEST FOR THE STANLEY CUP episode to be released Friday at 9 p.m.

The clip is Joonas Donskoi’s overtime goal in Game 3 to help give the Sharks their first Stanley Cup Final victory in organization history.

The segment showed the anticipation in the locker rooms before overtime with Pittsburgh Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist trying to pump up his teammates – along with a silent Sharks room.

The goal itself led to jubilation on the ice, as microphones captured the screams of the Sharks' players as they mobbed Donskoi.

And then there’s relief in the San Jose dressing room after the goal. Coach Peter DeBoer stood and smiled as the group cheered for Donskoi as he entered.

San Jose trails the Penguins 2-1 with Game 4 on Monday and the goal was vital in keeping the Sharks' Cup chances alive.

This wasn’t the only all-access overtime Cup Final winner on Showtime. The network showed the Penguins’ locker room before and after Conor Sheary’s Game 2 overtime winner as well.

The focus for the series has mostly been on games and practices and not back story, which has given ALL ACCESS: QUEST FOR THE STANLEY CUP A different feel than past NHL all-access type series from HBO and EPIX. This format has drawn favorable reviews so far.

“The stakes are higher,” show producer Ross Greenburg told Puck Daddy at the start of the series. “And the intensity seems to be coming through. When we come into locker rooms now, the coaches and the players have taken it up a notch. You can feel the pressure. This kind of access is pretty exciting, because as far as I know no one’s ever been this embedded during the playoffs in any sport. So it feels pretty special.”
