Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz trade insults as UFC 200 looms

Conor McGregor may not be fighting at UFC 200, but he isn’t going away quietly.

The UFC featherweight champion hosted an impromptu fan Q&A on Twitter on Monday where he discussed everything from how well he thinks UFC 200 will sell without him on the card to his desire to eventually step into the Octagon again with Nate Diaz.Conor McGregor lands a punch on Nate Diaz during their UFC 196 bout. McGregor believes that UFC 200 will not accumulate 1.5 million buys without him on the card and went so far as to suggest that the PPV record held by last year’s Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao showdown was in his sights. While that may be a bold assessment, it’s become typical McGregor.

The Irishman continued on his random Twitter rampage by stating that he’s ready to face the winner of UFC 200’s interim featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar so that he can unify the titles.

“I look forward to my end-of-year unification bout,” McGregor tweeted. “But like I said before. These featherweights don't understand...”

It didn’t take long for McGregor to set his sights on Diaz. He stated that he will “school” Diaz in a rematch and went so far as to suggest that Diaz was making more excuses in his UFC 196 victory than McGregor made in losing.

“He has made more excuses for the first eight minutes of our fight than I have made for the last two minutes of our fight,” McGregor tweeted.

Eventually, Diaz decided to crash the party and shut McGregor down with one well-placed tweet that consisted of a simple hashtag.

The tweet refers to McGregor’s perceived lack of a ground game, which ended up costing him back in March when Diaz scored a second-round submission via rear naked choke. No matter what McGregor says, Diaz will be able to hold that over him until they meet again.

There are still no plans for Diaz and McGregor to meet at UFC 200 and there have been no updates regarding whether Diaz will remain on the card or if he and McGregor will end up headlining another card. But whenever it does happen, it’s going to have everyone’s attention.
