iOS 8.1.1 release imminent, you should restore to iOS 8.1 now if you want to jailbreak your device in the future

Jailbreak iOS 8.1

As reported earlier, Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 beta, which kills Pangu 8.1-8.x.x jailbreak. saurik has also confirmed that Apple has fixed at least one of the exploits used by the Pangu jailbreak.

This means that when Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 to the public, you won’t be able to jailbreak your device on iOS 8.1.1 with the Pangu jailbreak. So if you have been on the fence about jailbreaking because Pangu jailbreak for iOS 8-iOS 8.1 hasn’t been stable, then you should at least update/restore to iOS 8.1 right now. Here’s what you should do based on which iOS version you’re on currently.

iOS 7.x.x:

I know a number of people are still on iOS 7.0.x because they don’t want to lose their jailbreak. If you’re currently on iOS 7.0.x, and did not upgrade to iOS 8 because you were waiting for the jailbreak, and now waiting for your favorite tweaks to be updated to support iOS 8-iOS 8.1, then it is important to note that most of the initial issues have now been fixed and a number of jailbreak tweaks are now compatible with iOS 8-iOS 8.1.

If your favorite tweaks haven’t been updated yet then it should be updated to add support for iOS 8-iOS 8.1 very soon. So you should strongly consider upgrading/restoring to iOS 8.1. The added benefit is that you will not be able to use the new features and improvements in iOS 8 – iOS 8.1.

iOS 8.1 via OTA update

If you had updated to iOS 8.1 via OTA then it is recommended to restore it again with iTunes before jailbreaking, as you could run into issues during the jailbreaking process if you had updated your device using OTA update.

iOS 8.0.x

If you’ve jailbroken your device on iOS 8.0.x, it may still be a good idea to upgrade to iOS 8.1 and re-jailbreak your device, so you can

So you should consider restoring to iOS 8.1 now, as you won’t have an option if Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 if you wait for that to happen. It is also important to note that Cydia developers at some point may start releasing tweaks only for iOS 8.

Mac users

Pangu Team has said that they’re focusing on the Mac version of the Pangu jailbreak. However, there is a high chance that Apple will release iOS 8.1.1 before Pangu jailbreak for Mac is released. If you’re waiting for the Mac version of the Pangu jailbreak, then you should try to install Windows on your Mac using Parallels. You can check out our guide if you need any help:
