Vincent Trocheck out 'week-to-week' with lower body injury

Vincent Trocheck’s leg was reportedly in a cast Wednesday.

The young Florida Panthers sniper, who was hurt after blocking a shot in his team’s 5-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday is considered week-to-week with a lower body injury by the team. But reporters who cover the Panthers noted the prognosis is more grim.

According to Harvey Fialkov of the Sun-Sentinel, Trocheck is out at least three weeks including the first week of the playoffs. George Richards of the Miami Herald said the cast was to help the healing process so Trocheck could be back in time for the playoffs.

The 22-year-old Trocheck has enjoyed quite a breakout season for the Panthers. He co-leads the Panthers with 25 goals and has a plus-15 rating.

After the game, Florida forward Jaromir Jagr spoke glowingly of Trocheck.

“He was our best player for a long time, so that’s tough,” Jagr said according to the Miami Herald. “Not only did we lose a game but we lost one of our best players. Hopefully someone will step up. That line had been playing so well.”

Trocheck’s injury could hurt the Panthers as they fight for playoff positioning with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both teams have 93 points – tops in the Atlantic Division – with six games left to play.
