All good: Nate Diaz, Justin Bieber squash beef
Whether he wants to admit it or not, Nate Diaz’s stock has spiked considerably since his second round submission victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 196. He’s certainly more famous than he has ever been over the course of his 12-year career despite telling Fox Sports’ “The Buzzer” that his life hasn’t changed much. But let’s look at the facts.
Before the McGregor fight, Diaz’s feuds have been relegated to fellow fighters. But since beating McGregor, the 30-year-old found himself embroiled in a brief social media feud with pop superstar Justin Bieber. It all started when Bieber took to Instagram to salute McGregor shortly after Diaz won the biggest fight of his career. Bieber suggested that McGregor was a “true champion [that] fights with style and finesse," while summarizing Diaz’s style as “terrible.”
This prompted a response from the Stockton fighter as he posted a cartoon of him delivering his trademark “Stockton Slap” to Bieber and telling him to “Shut your [expletive] ass up.”
"Bieber don't watch the sport; he don't know the sport. I've seen a couple other people too, Drake, all these other guys that are stating their opinion,” Diaz told Rolling Stone said while suggesting they picked McGregor because they were swept up in the hype. “How are you going to state your opinion when you don't know [expletive]? You're just showing your lack of knowledge on the sport."
But it appears that all is well between the pop star and MMA fighter as Diaz posted a picture with him and Bieber together with a simple caption that said “All good doe.”
While the feud with Bieber was short lived, it appears that the rivalry with McGregor will continue at UFC 200. Although the fight has yet to be formally announced, reports state that it is imminent. However, Diaz suggested that the rematch should not be contested at the welterweight limit of 170 pounds, which is a weight class above Diaz’s normal fighting weight and two above McGregor’s.
“If there’s a second fight I’ll fight at 155 pounds [because] I’d like to be in shape,” Diaz said. “[I don’t want] to have to hear no excuses.”
