Brenden Morrow on urinating with Brett Hull, retirement (Podcast)

Brenden Morrow retired on Thursday as a member of the Dallas Stars, signing a ceremonial one-day contract with the team. Thus ends a remarkable 15-season career for Morrow, 37, who had 575 points and 1,362 penalty minutes for the Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning.

We spoke with Morrow on Marek Vs. Wyshynski about his career, his decision to retire, his time in the Olympics and various other topics. They included the fact that before Morrow joined the Stars, the legendary Brett Hull was his favorite player. Like a “poster on the bedroom wall” type favorite player.

So how does one make the transition from teammate to peer? We asked Morrow about Hull:

“It was tough. I was awestruck for sure when I got here. He wasn’t the only one in the locker room, but to me, he was that special one.

“It took a late night over at his loft one night. Of all things, we had a leak off his balcony. And I was like, ‘Eh, you know, this guy’s a pretty normal guy. I shouldn’t be scared of this guy.’

“Pretty funny story, but I think that’s what it took: Taking a leak with the guy. And we became pretty fast friends and still are to this day.”

Life advice from Brenden Morrow: If you want to stand shoulder to shoulder with giants, might as well empty your bladder in the process.

The Morrow interview begins around the 28-minute mark of the podcast above. Before that, we talk about the Philadelphia Flyers and the Calder Trophy race. Enjoy!
