Apple slashes prices of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c ahead of iPhone 6 launch in India

Apple has slashed the prices of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c ahead of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch in India.

The 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5s are now available for Rs. 44,500, and Rs. 49,500 respectively.

Apple had launched the 16GB iPhone 5s for an MRP of Rs. 53,500, so it has received a price cut of Rs. 9,000, where as the 32GB variant, which was launched at an MRP of Rs. 62,500, has received an even steeper price cut of Rs. 13,000.

Apple has also dropped the prices of the 8GB iPhone 5c, which is now available for Rs. 31,500, instead of its launch price of Rs. 37,500.

Interestingly, as Techpp points out, Amazon is online shopping sites like Flipkart and Amazon are offering iPhone 5s for as low as Rs. 35,600.

Apple is expected to launch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India on October 17, just in time for Diwali, the country’s biggest festival. The price cuts for the older models don’t come as a surprise, as Apple had dropped the prices of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c by $100, though the price cuts are deeper in India, which could be to take into account the change in exchange rate. Apple is yet to announce the prices for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India.

It is also interesting to see online retailers offering iPhones at a significant discount compared to the MRP, which isn’t seen in other countries.
